Reducing Production Costs for Inconel Machining

Challenge:

A precision manufacturer focused on the aerospace Industry was using a competitor’s manual back counterbore tool for an exhaust flange. The customer was looking for a faster automated solution similar to what they have used on previous projects.

Application details:


•Machine type/holder: VMC

•Material/Hardness: Inconel 718

•Main bore: Ø8.5mm

•Spotface Diameter: Ø15.5mm

Solution:


The BSF (Back Spotfacing Tool) with a carbide TiAIN coated blade was the solution to this challenge.


Machining Parameters:
Working Speed: 30 SFM
Working Feed: .25 IPM
Internal Coolant
Cycle Time/Holes Per Blade: aprox. 25 holes per blade

Results:

 

The HEULE BSF was able to back spotface the inconel exhaust flange with precision. The customer was able to automate the process and reduce time per part considerably while maintaining better part quality.
