DCC: Solid Carbide Drilling and Chamfering
The HEULE DCC combines solid carbide drilling with automated front and back chamfering in one continuous operation. Designed for CNC machining, DCC eliminates the need to stop the spindle, rotate the workpiece, or switch tools between drilling and chamfering — delivering a fully finished bore in a single pass.
Built around a solid carbide drill body and HEULE's proven SNAP chamfering technology, the DCC tool combines the durability and precision of a solid carbide drill with a spring-loaded, mechanically actuated chamfering blade. This gives manufacturers a compact, reliable solution for small-diameter combination drilling applications where cycle time, consistency, and reduced tool changes matter most.
Key Features and Benefits
- Combined drilling + forward/backward chamfering in a single pass
- Solid carbide drill body (durability benefit)
- SNAP-technology spring-loaded chamfering blade
- No workpiece rotation or tool change required
- Short set-up and non-productive time
- Quick, simple blade changes
Sizes / Availability
- Ø4.0 mm – Ø10.0 mm
- Drilling depths up to 2.5× drill diameter
- Chamfering capacity up to 0.8 mm (note countersink-step option for larger chamfers)
- Blade options: forward+backward or backward-only
How Does It Work?
- Drill cuts bore first
- Blade cuts forward chamfer on the feed
- Radial retraction into tool body at target chamfer size
- Spring-loaded control bolt resets blade for the back chamfer on exit
Typical/Ideal Applications
DCC excels in small-diameter combination drilling and chamfering across a range of industries and materials:
- Aerospace structural components — burr-free through-holes with tight chamfer tolerances (±.010"–.020") in titanium structures
- High-volume tubular/structural parts — square/round tubing with multiple-hole patterns in low-carbon steel, suited to high-production environments (250,000+ parts/year)
- Titanium and high-temperature alloy machining — proven in small-diameter (Ø4–6 mm) titanium applications where cutting-force reliability is critical
- General precision machining — flat or slightly uneven drilling edges across common production materials
Material Compatibility
DCC drill geometries and coatings are tailored by material family:
- Steel — universal/standard geometry (TiAlN coating)
- Aluminum — DLC coating
- Titanium / high-temp alloys — TiAlN coating
- Stainless steel — TiAlN coating
How Does DCC Compare to VEX?
DCC and VEX both combine a solid carbide drill with HEULE's SNAP chamfering system to drill and chamfer in a single pass — but they're built for different jobs:
- VEX-S / VEX-P are HEULE's proven, off-the-shelf solution for high-volume automotive and precision machining (brake discs, tubes, wheel hubs), available now in Ø5.0 mm – 17.0 mm.
- DCC is individually engineered around your specific bore geometry and material — including dedicated drill geometries and coatings for steel, aluminum, titanium/high-temp alloys, and stainless. It's especially suited to aerospace structural components and small-diameter titanium applications (Ø4.0 mm – 10.0 mm) where cutting-force reliability at the smallest sizes matters most.
